People are the biggest asset in a business, but how do you know how that asset is performing? Using data and analytics to fully understand the performance of your people is fast becoming the hallmark of a forward-thinking HR department.

In the last of our HR Leadership Series of videos, Dr Anthony Hesketh of Lancaster University and AdviserPlus CEO Nick Bradley discuss the return on investment for talent in a business and HR’s role in identifying and evaluating it.

In the video, Nick Bradley says that many businesses are yet to fully get to grips with the benefits to be had from looking at return on investment for talent.

He said: “The sense I get is that there are some really good initiatives but there’s no clear view yet. It feels like there’s a little bit of trailblazing and pioneering to be done here.”

However, with data and analytics and the demands of the modern workforce, he feels the future is exciting for senior HR leaders.

He added: “If you are not going to have that role in your company driving a strategic metrics-driven return you are going to be missing out on a huge amount of how the world is changing.”

In the video, Dr Hesketh also goes on to explain the nine key questions that HR people need to be able to answer.
