People policy paradox:
Less than half of businesses have people policies that are effectively tailored to their needs, leading to inconsistent employee experiences and higher risks.
Transform people policies to drive business success
People policies are more than just guidelines, they are a reflection of your organisational culture and values. They play a crucial role in shaping how employees perceive and engage with your company. As your company evolves and the workforce changes, these policies can quickly become outdated.
To highlight the importance of keeping people policies current, we surveyed 100 HR professionals about the alignment of their policies with their business needs. The results were eye-opening.
Addressing menopause in the workplace: A critical policy gap
Despite recent media coverage and successful tribunal cases highlighting the importance of managing menopause in the workplace, over 20% of organisations still lack a dedicated policy to support this crucial aspect of employee well-being. About one-fifth of organisations are missing other essential HR policies needed to build inclusive and equitable work environments.
Are your employee relations policies up-to-date?
Less than half of surveyed organisations believe their employee relations policies are fully effective. Outdated or inadequate HR policies can leave businesses struggling to meet legal and cultural standards, potentially impacting employee experiences and increasing business risk. Regularly reviewing and updating your policies is essential to ensure they remain fit for purpose and support a thriving workplace.
Boosting manager capability is key to effective ER policies
69% of respondents believe that limited manager capabilities are a major barrier to developing effective employee relations policies. Given that managers are crucial in implementing these policies, enhancing their skills should be a top priority. Improving manager capability helps ensure consistent application and reduces the risk of misinterpretation, which can lead to employee disengagement and increased risk.
The importance of regular HR policy reviews
Less than two-thirds of organisations regularly review their HR policies, revealing a potential gap in governance. Regular assessments are essential to keep people policies aligned with evolving workplace standards and societal needs. Outdated policies can create compliance risks and negatively impact employee experiences. Scheduled reviews ensure policies remain relevant and responsive to changing dynamics, technology, and trends.
